Foundation Unit

Looking to update their foundation unit play area, Appledore Primary School wanted to create an area for early years play that would inspire children’s imagination and provide outdoor learning and nature play.

We moved the original shed to the left and created a new Scooter Garage lean to shelter. On the existing platform we created a new lookout Lighthouse Den complete with additional binoculars. In front we installed the Digging Planter with various height planting sections.

We designed a bespoke boat shaped double sand pit, with covers, pulley, sand bucket and chute topped off with HMS Appledore on the mast. We installed musical play with Congas to the left, and to the right there is a colourful set of Rainbow Chimes. The area was finished with Artificial Grass and Rubber Mulch safety surfacing. We painted the wall and added different coloured paint to the area to create a nautical theme.

We included engravings on the bespoke Crate Planters and nautical engravings on the Engraved Archway with Totems to enhance the quayside theme.
